News and Announcements

The NERHL league meeting was completed on Sunday and we have been finalizing the ice schedule. Both Atoms teams and our team are part of the NERHL league this year.

We start the League by hosting games here November 7th and 8th.
We host another game on November 15th.
Traveling November 21 and 22.

Parents we need to organize and plan the season please come with your calendars Saturday morning and we will meet upstairs.

We play at 11:30 today.

Thanks Gloria

*At the beginning of the season all parents completed and signed their wishes for travel this year. The results were as follows 4 did not want to join the NERHL League but would if the majority are, 5 are interested in only traveling 1 or 2 times, 10 are interested in traveling 3 or 4 times, with 5 wanting more than 4 trips. Two were not returned. When you work with these numbers we as a team can rotate and travel to some games and have some games at home. When I was in my last meeting with the League there are either 7 or 8 teams. This looks like 3 or 4 trips plus finals. With this roster we will build teams to travel out for league games and the roster that is built to travel out for the game is the at home roster we will use. All rosters will be built and organized as soon as possible after my meeting this weekend so parents are aware of games and travel for the rest of the season. I understand that all players want to play at home and when a team travels here everyone wants to play. However not everyone wants to travel 5 times to ensure you can play every game that will be offered as a at home game. Keeping in mind some did vote for this and if they go to every game they may play every home game. This was the commitment they were willing to make as we were planning our team. I greatly appreciate all the information that parents have given me and I have a list that I am taking to the meeting on Sunday.

Important parent vote Yes I want League games in our tournament so teams will travel here. Keeping in mind when we do this we have a roster of 26 so we run tournaments with 3 games 8 players sit out first game, 8 players sit out second game 9 players sit out third game. Why so many? Everyone sits out once but goalie ( we only have one). If we make finals we will have lines created and we will pull out the lines that practice regularly together and that will be the team for the final game. The rest of the players watch and cheer.

No I do not want League games in our tournament. Send out invitations and wait and see if anyone comes.

Votes will be tallied on Friday Oct. 23

Thanks Gloria

Skate a Thon

Posted by Gloria Woodcock at Oct 18, 2015 10:19PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

*Players were given their pledge sheets this week and can now go and collect pledges, they can either skate for an hour or 200 laps. The Player who collects the most pledges will win a surprise prize as well as the team who raises the most money will have a pizza party. Have fun collecting pledges this is the last fundraiser before Christmas. Please bring your envelope to hockey to the skate a thon on Sunday at 1:00. Even if you do not collect any money please bring in your envelope and have fun skating with your team. Thank you to Lori C. Sherry, Krissy and Brett who have offered to help with collecting the envelopes from the kids and encouraging them while they skate. If anyone wants to help them please join them that day I will be in Fort St John setting up the NERHL Schedule.

I need a score keeper to join Donna on Oct. 24 and another score keeper to join Lori C. on Oct. 31
Please let me know if you can help with this.

Thanks Gloria

Can’t take the safety course but could help with monitoring dressing rooms. Need two adults who are around the doors of the dressing rooms listening to what is going on. Having a presence will discourage inappropriate behavior and can be added towards your volunteer time. I greatly appreciated the dads on Sunday morning who visited around the dressing room door. If you can help with this please let me know.

On Sunday October 25 we are sponsoring an old fashioned skate a thon. The kids will be getting an envelope where they can ask for sponsorship for skating for an hour that day. They will skate to music and challenge themselves to how many laps they can skate. There are no receipts being handed out for the donations they are collecting. Like at school whether they collect money or not they can still come and skate please return the empty envelope to the leader that day. I am away organizing the NERHL League this day. ( date change) I need 6 parents who can put together the envelopes I have it all just glue sheet on, and add names of players, hand them out and collect them on the 25th and encourage the kids to skate and have fun. Count for them make it enjoyable. If this sounds like something you can help with please let me know. For the 6 parents it will count for 2 hours towards your volunteer fees.

I need one parent who can volunteer an appropriate playlist for this event and play music for them. 1 hour volunteer time. Check the size of cord you need to connect for the music. Rec center staff has one you can use if you do not have your own.

Thank you in advance for your help

I am looking for a few parents to help with safety for our group. You need to take your BC Hockey training to act as a Safety Person. The Course is available on line at bchockey.net (go to programs and drop down the list and click on Risk Management HCSP you will have to set up an account). Duties include: checking equipment

implements an Emergency Action Plan for the team and is prepared to react in the event of an accident, injury and medical emergency

Respect in Sport is another course you will need to be in direct contact with the players it is the activity leader course that costs $30 and takes approximately 3 hours to complete. This Certification is valid for 4 years.

We have to have someone traveling and close to the ice or on the bench at all times. Please let me know if you are working on the course or can help by taking it. Thanks Gloria
